What a solar CRM should actually track
A generic CRM tracks contacts. A solar business needs to track a job from first call to years of service.
Most CRMs are built around a contact and a deal. A solar business has something longer: a lead becomes a survey, a survey becomes a quote, a quote becomes an install, and the install becomes a customer you may service for years.
That means the record has to follow the whole journey. Calls and notes at the start. Survey details and site photos in the middle. Quote versions, payments and install proofs after the sale. Subsidy documents and service tickets long after.
It also means stages should use the words your team already says: contacted, visit scheduled, survey done, won. Renamed generic stages make people guess, and guessing is where leads go quiet.
The test is simple. Pick any customer and ask where they stand. If the answer needs three phone calls, the system is not tracking the right things.
